GlaGla Race 18 days to go : Marie Dautruche and Starboard

Very Flat Race : marie dautruche winner

Marie Dautruche, Cully (Switzerland) – Starboard

Marie, you registered for the GlaGla Race 2019. Are you impatient to be there?

Yes the GlaGla is can’t miss event for all alpine lakes paddlers ! We meet so many SUP friends  in the middle of winter! Good mood guaranteed! It’s a race that we do as a challenge, with a little luck under the snow! And I heared that there will be some great people for the 2019 edition, it’s a pleasure for international riders to move on an alpine lake.

You practice SUP all year round. How do you train in winter? What preparation and equipment for the alpine winter conditions ?

In fact it’s the first winter or I have to train here in the cold because last winter I had the chance to train in Fuerteventura.
This season it was necessary that I take my marks on Lake Geneva in winter, it is 2 to 3 degrees and we are immersed in the fog … hard to find the motivation. With the coldest hard it’s before and after. But once I’m there it’s so good. In winter the lake offers a special atmosphere that I like very much. The sight of the snow-covered mountains make me feel better.
I do about 4 training sessions on the water a week and I complete with other sports, cycling, bodybalance, bodybuilding, swimming and of course skiing. Seal skin is an excellent complement to work the body.
And also I plan to go regularly to sea or ocean to work the downwind and the waves. I’m leaving this week in Tarifa.

The equipment? In race, I’m always too hot when I paddle, so running pants in goretex, thermal and windproof enough, even when it is 1 or 2 degrees. And of course, the slippers! I often add big socks to have warm calf … the look is not terrible but it is effective!

Marie Dautruche GlaGla Race Training

You finished 1st in the Alpine Lakes Tour 2018, a circuit that has accumulated 1250 participants. What makes it so successful?

Yes it was one of my 2018 goals. Mission accomplished!
I would say rigorous and daily trainings. I am training Vincent Guillaume for over a year, which allowed me to progress well. A complete physical preparation because I practice other sports. My frequent trips to the ocean, when I come back rowing on the lake, the lake seems easier. Training with rowers and rowers much better than me, who really made me progress and especially that gave me the desire to improve again and again. I also think of an excellent board of flat, my sprint from Starboard, she is my most faithful ally, a rocket … And finally, to force my character! I try to be more efficient and optimize each exit on the water.
