Mini FAT Race : le tour du petit lac épreuve coupe de France SUP Race 14′

paddle petit lac annecy doussard

Ocean Paddle Camp is new GlaGla Race partner and Amaury Dormet is offering a very price !

Hello Amaury!

ocean paddle camp

1-Who are you? Since how long and why do you practice the Stand Up Paddle?

My name is Amaury DORMET and it’s 35 years that i am paddling. I started with the rowing with a very good level as athlete and then as a coach for 15 years, this was my job. Then, i needed some change and it is the ocean water paddle activities anowered to my expectation. Surf Life saving, prone paddling, outrigger canoe, Stand Up Paddle, and now foil. So it is 20 years that i am exploring all kinds of paddle activities who slide on and with the ocean.

To not be specialist don’t stop me to perform. I must have a national podium with all these activities and did some good performance in 2018 into 3 different sport federation.

ocean paddle camp

2-Can you tell us about the Ocean Paddle Camp? It is for who and what are we doing?

In 2018 i start a down wind center in Brittany with the Ocean Paddle Camp. The concept is to offer to each paddler a way to learn and progress on all different paddling activities such as SUP, prone paddle and outrigger canoe. We organize week and weekend training course with a team athlete guess who is reinforcing the management. Everyday, we intervene about paddling technic, physic exercise and adaptation to the ocean environment.

The peninsula of Crozon is a wonderfull location who i perfect to enjoy paddle activities. The past saison, 62 paddler come to our training camp. Crozon/Morgat is located in the middle of the Brest harbor, the bay of Dournenez and the Iroise sea, we can slide every single day of the year.

ocean paddle camp

With our partnership, Ocean Perf, Swell Addiction Brest, Side Shore, Glazsea à Morlaix, Direct Sailing la Baule et 3 Bay we also suggest to try a lot of material , included in the training course. One great opportunity to test the new things from some of the big brand of paddle, boards and outrigger canoe.

But ocean Paddle Camp is also a big house in Morgat, 200 meters from the beach, with all confort and facility a paddler dream off. (Gym room, sauna, drying space…..)

More information on www.oceanpaddlecamp.com

3-The Glaglarace inspire you?

I can’t wait to discover the Glaglarace. I heard a lot as a great event. I also organise myself some event in the Crozon peninsula, some nice race like the Presqu’île Paddle Race or the Morgat Waterman Challenge who are ocean race. So, yes, very curious to see about this this race who is very different of what i know. I think i will learn a lot.

And this year, Glaglarace is also a partner of the Ocean Paddle Camp that will allow one of the participants to win an internship. We are very happy about this partnership, it’s a bridge between our 2 county for the same paddling and sliding passion.

GlaGla Race : 15 days to go. Interview Steevie Ascroft (Jersey). Presentation Julbo Paddle sunglasses

Steevie ascroft

Today we are interviewing Steevie Ascroft from Jersey who is coming for the first at the GlaGla Race in… 15 days ! We are also presenting the Julbo “Paddle” sunglasses dedicated to SUP, they float !

Who are you ? How long have been paddleboarding ?

My name is Steve Ascroft and I have lived on the beautiful island of Jersey for all 54 years of my life. I started paddle boarding about 7 or 8 years ago. In fact the Jersey Paddle Club, of which I am proud to have been the first Chairman, was actually set up with some great paddle friends in my kitchen!!

It’s your first GlaGla Race, why did you register ? What do you expect ?

Jersey Paddle ClubThis is my first GlaGla Race. A good friend of mine, Tim Tredant, a very good paddler who is also attending, suggested I look at the website and, having done so, I was excited by the concept of the race and setting myself this test. I am not the fastest of paddlers (as you will all see at the race!) but I am more than willing to accept the 14k challenge and will race/participate with a big smile on my face.

How are you preparing ? What kind of equipment do you have for the GlaGla Race ?

For preparation I am afraid to say I have not been paddling as much as I would have wished but I cycle to work every day during the week and do some specific exercises which should hopefully see me through 14k of paddling. I have a 14ft Bark D2 which I will be using for the race. It is a very good flat water board but as I mentioned above I am not the fastest!
I am very much looking forward to participating in the race and am also looking forward to the fantastic atmosphere that I am sure follows being involved in such a prestigious event.

The “Paddle”

The new Julbo Paddle sunglasses are a stylish accessory designed for stand-up paddle fans. Whether you’re paddling in the Lake District, heading along a river or facing ocean currents, the Paddle range is suited to both calm and choppy waters. Their Bubble Frame technology (air bubbles incorporated into the frame) means that they float.

So it doesn’t matter how many times you wipe-out – your glasses won’t sink! The Paddle’s Grip Nose and Grip Tech technology ensure a snug, secure fit. If you do fall off your board, their Bubble Frame and Floating Cord make these glasses easy to find and hold.

Their Polarized 3 CF category anti-reflect lenses make Paddle glasses an essential if you’re in an area with harsh sunlight or potentially blinding reflections.

With their stylish California-inspired design, the Paddle glasses are as suited to lazing on a beach as they are to SUP activities.

GlaGla Race : 16 days to go : interview Leonard Nika and Paddle League presentation

Leonard Nika
Leonard Nika (GlaGla Race 2018)

We continue with our daily interviews about GlaGla Race participants. Today Leonard Nika, one of the top paddlers in the world.

Leo, it’s your third GlaGla Race, what do you like about this event ?

I like the GlaGla Race because it’s in a beautiful location, paddling with 400 people in a lake surrounded with beautiful mountains full of snow is something that you can’t do every day and always well organized. I like also the challenge of this race, because there is always good competitors to test my strength in off season.

This year I will try to improve my 2nd place in a photo finish and bring home the victory!

Leonard nika vs Tom Auber

Do you have a special training programme or preparation for winter conditions ?

I don’t have a special training for winter conditions, the only thing I do when is winter is to make sure that my feet and my body are always well protected with thicker neoprene so they stays always warm.

2019 is just starting ! Your resolutions and/or projects for this new year ?

My plans for this year are a bit different from last year, instead of doing every weekend a race I will focus more in my training for a big event to maximize the possibility of a victory!! I also will work on my sup training camps in Portugal that I started last year and it was a great success. This year we have available one week per month for all 2019 sup training camps for everyone that want to train hard having fun with a supervision of my self and my brother Claudio Nika. If someone is interested you have to send an e-mail to niksurfer@hotmail.it to get more info.

Thank you for this interview and I’m very looking forward to compete at the GlaGla Race in few weeks,

Leonard

The Paddle League

The Paddle League

The Paddle  League was created in 2018. The GlaGla Race will be the first Paddle League event of 2019.

“Welcome to The Paddle League, where we aim to help build a better, brighter and more sustainable future for stand up paddling that benefits everyone who’s part of this amazing community.

We’re aiming to help unify, elevate and grow the great standalone events around the world while providing the elite athletes, weekend warriors, brands, fans and media a wider platform to stand on.

We also firmly believe in reconnecting SUP with its “grassroots” foundation, which means a stronger emphasis on amateurs, juniors and simply getting more people out there on the water for the first time. Because that’s the heart of our sport.

The Paddle League, which I’ve helped to co-found over the past six months with my good mates Kelly Margetts and Brian Meyer (along with the support of many other selfless paddlers), aims to achieve this by creating a unified, inclusive world tour (an evolution of the SUP Racer World Rankings) that connects everything from the awesome international events to the amazing regional races.”

More about the Paddle League

GlaGla Race 18 days to go : Marie Dautruche and Starboard

Very Flat Race : marie dautruche winner

Marie Dautruche, Cully (Switzerland) – Starboard

Marie, you registered for the GlaGla Race 2019. Are you impatient to be there?

Yes the GlaGla is can’t miss event for all alpine lakes paddlers ! We meet so many SUP friends  in the middle of winter! Good mood guaranteed! It’s a race that we do as a challenge, with a little luck under the snow! And I heared that there will be some great people for the 2019 edition, it’s a pleasure for international riders to move on an alpine lake.

You practice SUP all year round. How do you train in winter? What preparation and equipment for the alpine winter conditions ?

In fact it’s the first winter or I have to train here in the cold because last winter I had the chance to train in Fuerteventura.
This season it was necessary that I take my marks on Lake Geneva in winter, it is 2 to 3 degrees and we are immersed in the fog … hard to find the motivation. With the coldest hard it’s before and after. But once I’m there it’s so good. In winter the lake offers a special atmosphere that I like very much. The sight of the snow-covered mountains make me feel better.
I do about 4 training sessions on the water a week and I complete with other sports, cycling, bodybalance, bodybuilding, swimming and of course skiing. Seal skin is an excellent complement to work the body.
And also I plan to go regularly to sea or ocean to work the downwind and the waves. I’m leaving this week in Tarifa.

The equipment? In race, I’m always too hot when I paddle, so running pants in goretex, thermal and windproof enough, even when it is 1 or 2 degrees. And of course, the slippers! I often add big socks to have warm calf … the look is not terrible but it is effective!

Marie Dautruche GlaGla Race Training

You finished 1st in the Alpine Lakes Tour 2018, a circuit that has accumulated 1250 participants. What makes it so successful?

Yes it was one of my 2018 goals. Mission accomplished!
I would say rigorous and daily trainings. I am training Vincent Guillaume for over a year, which allowed me to progress well. A complete physical preparation because I practice other sports. My frequent trips to the ocean, when I come back rowing on the lake, the lake seems easier. Training with rowers and rowers much better than me, who really made me progress and especially that gave me the desire to improve again and again. I also think of an excellent board of flat, my sprint from Starboard, she is my most faithful ally, a rocket … And finally, to force my character! I try to be more efficient and optimize each exit on the water.
