10 Reasons to Participate in the Tropical Race in Geneva!

–> la version française “les 10 raisons de participer à la Tropical Race” est ici.

The Tropical Race is approaching! The race will take place on Sunday, May 18th.

It’s a different kind of stage, with a very special atmosphere.

For all the practical information about the Tropical Race, please visit the presentation page on alpinelakestour.com.

To inspire you to come, here are 10 reasons to participate in the Tropical Race in Geneva!

1. The Largest Lake in Europe!

Leman crossing

The Tropical Race takes place on Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), the largest lake in Europe. It’s so vast that you sometimes feel like you’re by the sea or the ocean!

Léman or Lake Geneva?

The name of the lake is a subject of debate between the people of Geneva, who call it “Lake Geneva,” and the French, the people of Valais, and the people of Vaud, who call it “Léman.” (Wikipedia)

2. The Burgers at the Tropical Corner

burger au Tropical à Genève

What could be better after paddling hard and giving it your all than enjoying a good meal in a great atmosphere? Well, the Tropical Corner is the place for that!

“a very good Royal Bacon Cheeseburger with small potatoes and a green salad (CHF 20, or CHF 14 for the burger alone), with a nicely rounded and soft bun, a juicy steak that you can’t get enough of, perfectly grilled bacon, Gruyère cheese, caramelized onions, and cocktail sauce for a highly melting result. Top-notch!” (Source: https://quandestcequonmange.ch/tropical-corner-geneve/ )

3. The 10 km Course to the Mermaid Statue

Since 2021, the long-distance course of the Tropical Race takes us past Pointe à Bise, in front of magnificent properties, to round a mermaid statue perched on a rock!

4. The Junior Race

podium Junior Race

At the request of young riders, particularly from the Thonon Paddle Club, we have been offering a special 3 km course for budding champions since 2023: the Junior Race.

5. The “Playa” Vibe of Geneva

The Tropical Corner is located in a quiet little spot on the edge of Geneva. The spot’s decoration, its pebble beach, its pier, and its beachgoers give it the feel of a Mediterranean beach, like August holidays in the sun!

6. The Welcome!

Fabien Cachin propriétaire Tropical

The Tropical Corner team is a group of cheerful enthusiasts of water sports and parties (the Tropical Corner evenings attract crowds).

7. The Showers!

Tropical Corner

At the Tropical Corner, there’s a large changing room area with toilets and showers! For those used to the Alpine Lakes Tour, where we are sometimes far from any urban comfort, it’s a change and, frankly, not unpleasant!

8. The Pointe à la Bise Campsite

Camping Pointe à la Bise

Located 5 km from the Tropical along the lake, the Geneva-Vesenaz campsite is quiet, by the water (with easy access for paddling), comfortable, and very reasonably priced. There’s always space to pitch your tent. However, for a motorhome pitch or bungalow rentals, you need to book in advance.

9. The Sunsets

The sunsets from the Tropical Corner are magnificent! It’s the perfect place in Geneva for an aperitif.

10. The International Atmosphere

Geneva is an international city with many organizations and companies from all over the world. It’s a small international capital where you can hear all languages spoken. So at the Tropical Corner, you hear French with a Swiss, Savoyard, or… Parisian accent, but also English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and many other languages. That also gives you the feeling of being on a trip!
