Tropical Rave Geneva : evenement pluvieux, evenement heureux ! Rainy event, happy event !

Malgré des conditions météo automnales, l’ambiance était joyeuse hier au Tropical Corner ou 70 concurrent(e)s se font affrontés sur 7 courses tout au long de la journée !

Un grand bravo à Sebastien Jalmain vainqueur de la longue distance (11 km) et à Florence Julen vainqueur chez les femmes sur la longue distance (11 km)

Bravo à tous les kids qui se sont affrontés sur 4 courses : la junior race du matin (3 km), la kids Race, les sprints kids et la Dragon Race !

Un immense merci à nos amis du Tropical Corner pour leur accueil et à Red Paddle Co pour leur soutien.

Merci à Eric Terrien d’etre venu participer à la Tropical Race, 8 ans après sa dernière course en SUP Race ! Bravo pour sa victoire avec les “chasses d’eau” sur la Dragon Race 😉

Despite autumnal weather conditions, the atmosphere was joyful yesterday at the Tropical Corner where 70 competitors competed in 7 races throughout the day!

La Tropical Race approche ! Cette année, la course aura lieu le 2 juin (au lieu de début juillet depuis 2020).

1. Le plus grand lac d’Europe !

La Tropical Race a lieu sur le lac Leman, le plus grand lac d’Europe, tellement grand, qu’on a parfois l’impression d’être au bord de la mer, ou de l’Océan !

Léman ou lac de Genève ?

Le nom du lac est le sujet d’un débat entre les Genevois, qui l’appellent « lac de Genève », et les Français, les Valaisans et les Vaudois, qui l’appellent « Léman »11,16. (Wikipedia)

Dans Le Léman : monographie limnologique, le naturaliste originaire de Morges François-Alphonse Forel écrit : « L’usage tend à s’établir en géographie, et cela avec raison, de préférer, partout où il en existe, le nom personnel d’un lac au nom de la ville située sur ses bords. Un lac est un individu géographique en lui-même et par lui-même ; il a sa vie propre et indépendante de toute action humaine ; ses relations avec les cités des hommes transitoires et passagères en comparaison de la durée bien supérieure du lac, sont d’importance accessoire »14,7.

2. Les Burgers du Tropical Corner

Quoi de mieux après avoir bien ramé et d’avoir tout donné, que de déguster un bon repas dans une bonne ambiance ? Et bien au Tropical Corner, c’est le lieu pour !

“un bien bon Royal Bacon Cheese burger avec des pommes de terre grenaille et une salade verte (20 CHF, sinon 14 CHF pour le burger seul), avec un pain bien rebondi et moelleux, un steak saignant qui se mangeait sans faim, du lard parfaitement grillé, du gruyère, oignons confits et sauce cocktail pour un rendu hautement fondant. 3 . Le parcours de la 10 km jusqu’à la statue de la sirène

Depuis 2021, le parcours de la longue distance de la Tropical Race nous emmène après la pointe à Bise, en passant devant de magnifiques propriétés pour virer une statue de sirène posée sur un rocher !

4. La Junior Race

A la demande des jeunes riders notamment du Pagaie Club de Thonon, nous proposons depuis 2023, un parcours spécial pour les graines de champions et championnes sur 3 km : la Junior Race

5. L’ambiance “Playa” de Genève

Le Tropical Corner est installé dans un petit coin tranquille à la limite de Genève, la décoration du spot, sa plage de galet, sa digue, ses plagistes, lui donne des airs de plage méditerranéenne, de vacances d’Août au soleil !

6. L’accueil !

La team du Tropical Corner est une équipe de joyeux passionnés de sports nautiques et de fêtes (les soirées du Tropical Corner attirent les foules)

7. Les Douches !

Au Tropical Corner il y a un grand espace vestiaire, sanitaires et douches ! Pour les habitués de l’Alpine Lakes Tour, où on est parfois loin de toute forme de confort citadin, ça change et c’est, ma fois, pas désagréable !

8. Le camping de Pointe à la Bise

A 5 km du Tropical en longeant le lac, le camping de Genève-Vesenaz est au calme, au bord de l’eau (avec un accès simple pour aller paddler), confortable et à des tarifs très raisonnables. Il y a toujours de place pour poser sa tente. En revanche, pour un emplacement en camping car, ou des places en bungalow, il faut s’y prendre à l’avance.

9. Les couchers de soleil

Depuis le Tropical Corner, les couchers de soleil sont magnifiques ! C’est le bon endroit à Genève pour prendre l’apéro 🙂

10. L’ambiance internationale

Genève est une ville internationale avec de nombreux organismes et entreprises du monde entier, c’est une petite capitale internationale où on peut entendre parler toutes les langues. Ainsi au Tropical Corner, on entend le Français avec l’accent Suisse, savoyard ou… parisien mais aussi l’anglais, l’allemand, l’Italien, l’Espagnol, le Portugais et bien d’autres langues, ça aussi ça donne l’impression d’être en voyage !

Thank you all for your participation in this Tropical Race 2023! A huge thank you to the Tropical Corner for their welcome and their golden help! Thank you to the rescue of Geneva and our team of super volunteers: Amandine, Angélique, Hélène, Naty, Anne, Jérôme, Jean Philippe and Laurent! Congratulations to Emmanuelle Marcon and Olivier Comazzi, winners of the long distance in the women’s and men’s categories. A huge congratulations to the children, especially from the club of Thonon and Savoie! You have been incredible in good humor, sportsmanship, tenacity and performance!

See you on Sunday July 2, 2023 in Geneva, at the Tropical Corner for a great summer race the Famous Tropical Race on the sporty and select spot famous for its burgers, its wild parties and its top-notch gear.

Rendez vous le dimanche 2 juillet 2023 à Genève, au Tropical Corner pour une belle course estivale, la fameuse Tropical Race sur le spot sportif et select fameux pour ses burgers, ses soirées endiablées et son matos au top.

Wir sehen uns am Sonntag, den 2. Juli 2023 in Genf, im Tropical Corner zu einem großartigen Sommerrennen an dem sportlichen und exklusiven Ort, der für seine Burger, seine wilden Partys und seine erstklassige Ausrüstung bekannt ist.

Ci vediamo domenica 2 luglio 2023 a Ginevra, al Tropical Corner per una grande corsa estiva nello spot sportivo e selezionato famoso per i suoi hamburger, le sue feste sfrenate e la sua attrezzatura di prim’ordine.

Special program for this Tropical Race at the Tropical Corner with a long (10km) and short distance (5 km) departure the same morning. In the afternoon we will have a Dragon Race and a Kids Race at the very beginning of the afternoon then a technical race.

Programme spécial pour cette Tropical Race au Tropical Corner avec une longue (10km) et courte distance (5 km) le matin même départ. Nous aurons l’après-midi une Dragon Race et une Kids Race en tout début d’après-midi puis une technical race en mode SUPer LAP Race ! C’est un format très ludique, que nous avions testé en 2014.

Super LAP Race SUP Race Geneve Tropical Corner Alpine Lakes Tour

Pour renouer avec les 1eres éditions de la Tropical Race, nous allons avoir une Technical Race de format SUPer LAP ! Les concurrents pourront sur un des tours de leur choix sur le parcours prend un raccourci !! Ce raccourci ne peut être pris qu’une seule fois. Chacun est libre de le faire au tour qu’il le souhaite ! Le parcours fera 500m. 5 tours sur chaque manche, soit 2500 mètres au total. Une manche le matin, une l’après midi. On cumule les temps des 2 manches.

Leman Crossing

The Leman Crossing is a race imagined in 2017, an ambitious project which was slowed down by several factors and in particular the COVID in 2020 and 2021. We hoped to be able to launch it this year. Unfortunately this will not be possible, there is still work to do for this event to take off! We are going to reconnoite the course tomorrow with the volunteers of the Alpine Lakes Tour team and look forward to seeing you in 2023 for a magnificent LEMAN CROSSING.

La Leman Crossing est une course imaginée en 2017, un projet ambitieux qui a été freiné par plusieurs facteurs et notamment le COVID en 2020 et 2021. Nous espérions pouvoir la lancer cette année. Malheureusement ce ne sera pas possible, il y a encore du travail à faire pour que cet événement puisse prendre son envol ! Nous allons refaire demain une reconnaissance du parcours avec les bénévoles de la team Alpine Lakes Tour et vous donnons rendez vous en 2023 pour une magnifique LEMAN CROSSING.

Lake Geneva is the largest lake in western Europe ! We created a new Alpine Lakes Tour Race to discover this incredible lake in full : the LEMAN CROSSING. Build a team of 6 to 8 people, we provide the board (unless you have one). It’s more than a race, it’s an adventure with very varied landscapes !

Le lac Léman est le plus grand lac d’Europe ! Nous avons créé une nouvelle étape de Alpine Lakes Tour : la LEMAN CROSSING, pour vous permettre de découvrir cet incroyable lac dans son intégralité. Constituez une équipe de 6 à 8 personnes, nous fournissons le Dragon (paddle à 4, sauf si vous en avez un). C’est plus qu’une course, c’est une aventure avec des paysages très variés !

Le Dragon c’est quoi ?

Red Paddle Co est l’inventeur de ce concept qui va totalement changer votre expérience du paddle ! Pagayer en équipe à 4 ça change tout ! Une fois qu’on a trouvé son équilibre et la coordination de l’équipe on trace sa route et on peut parcourir de longues distances plus facilement que sur un paddle individuel.

BAT RACE 2022 : the results !

The BAT RACE 2022 is over ! Thanks to all participants who took the usual challenge to compete in a SUP Race… under the surface of the earth !

The Alpine Lakes Tour has struck a blow again at the start of the season with the return of the BAT Race: the only underground paddle race!

Saturday March 12, 2022, stand-up paddle enthusiasts from Switzerland, France, Italy and even the Czech Republic and Poland had an appointment for this reissue of a world first at Lac de St-Léonard, the largest underground lake in Europe, located in Valais (Switzerland).

The fact of being underground, almost in the dark, gives a very unique atmosphere to this race.

A very feminine race 

It’s rare enough to point it out: there were more women than men yesterday at the BAT Race with a very high level!

A paddle tournament

Competitors competed in a tournament with a women’s board and a men’s board. All participants were able to run at least 3 times.  

The equipment (paddle, vest, paddles) was provided by the Alpine Lakes Tour’s sporting partner: Red Paddle Co, inventor of the inflatable stand up paddle.

A race in disguise!

The theme was naturally that of superheroes! But not everyone had to be Batman or Batwoman… A special prize was awarded for the best costumes!

 The underground lake of Saint Léonard

The underground lake of St-Léonard is located in Switzerland, between Sion and Sierre, in the heart of the Valais Alps. This lake nestles between 30 and 70 meters deep. With a length of almost 300 meters, it is the largest natural and navigable underground lake in Europe. Weakly influenced by seasonal changes, the temperature of the cave is constantly around 15 degrees, that of the water at 11 degrees.

Open to the public from March to October, the lake can be explored by taking part in guided tours on boats with a capacity of 40 people. Original events are regularly offered there, such as aperitifs or concerts on board the boats. 

The official opening of the lake to the public for the 2022 season will take place next weekend.

Navigating the lake on a stand-up paddle is totally unique and reserved for this stage of the Alpine Lakes Tour.

For the second time in the Alpine Lakes Tour history, we will have more women than men competing ! Pour la seconde fois dans l’histoire de l’Alpine Lakes Tour nous aurons plus de femmes que d’hommes à courir !

We will have 38 competitors from France, 23 from Switzerland, 4 from Italy and 1 from Poland, 1 from Czech Republic, and one from England.

Go to the end of the street and follow the signs ! climb up to the entrance of the lake / Allez au bout de la rue du lac et suivez les panneaux , montez à pied jusqu’à l’entrée du lac.

You will have to pay CHF 12 for the entrance to the lake (free for the kids) / Vous aurez à payer CHF 12- pour l’entrée au lac souterrain.

Lunch / Food

For those who have booked the meals offered by the Frisé Gourmet, you will have to pay for them on site in Swiss Francs or Euros. Drinks will be offered in addition (2€/CHF2). For those who have not booked, we will have a few “hot Diots” with shallots to order (within the limit of stocks available on your arrival). The bar will be open for coffees and drinks.

Pour ceux qui ont réservé les repas proposés par le Frisé Gourmet, vous aurez à les régler sur place en Francs Suisses ou en Euros. Des boissons seront proposées en complément (2€/CHF2). Pour ceux qui n’ont pas réservé nous aurons quelques “hot Diots” aux échalotes à commander (dans la limite des stocks disponibles à votre arrivée). Le bar sera ouvert pour des cafés et boissons.


Sécurité et équipement / Safety & Required equipment


Les participants doivent être couvert par une assurance en responsabilité civile / Registered participants have to be insured with a liability insurance.

Les SUP sont fournis (Red Paddle Elite Race 26″ et 28″ en 12’6). Prévoyez de prendre votre pagaie. SUP are provided by the organizers. Take your paddle.

Wetsuits are recommended but not compulsory / Les combinaisons sont recommandées mais pas obligatoires.
