Hello John ! Happy to see you coming back to the GlaGla Race ! Can you tell us who you are for those who don’t know you yet ! How long have you been paddling ?
I’m a 58-year-old stand-up paddleboarder, born in Glasgow, Scotland, and living in the northwest of England for the last 30 years. One Saturday morning in June 2014 I happened to look out of my window which overlooks Southport Marine Lake. I saw three people out on the lake, paddleboarding. I’d never seen such a thing before, and I was intrigued. I had my first lesson later that month. What began as a hobby evolved into a lifetime quest to SUP in every country in the world. I’m on 47 countries at the moment, so I still have a long way to go.
What do you like about the GlaGla Race ?
In my first few years of SUP, I was famous in my friend group for hibernating every winter. My board would go away at the end of October and not come back out until March or April. In 2017/18, I decided to be brave and paddle through the winter. Then I read about the Glagla Race and decided to be braver still. I took part in January 2018 and loved every minute of it, even though it was very cold on the day. It snowed not long after the race finished. I think the GlaGla Race is a unique event and I like to challenge myself. I just love the town of Annecy itself and the lake is absolutely spectacular. I’m very much looking forward to coming again in 2023.

You are a big fan of the Red Paddle brand. What do you like most about their SUP boards ?
I’ve owned Redpaddle boards for more than eight years now. Sometimes my quest to SUP the World takes me to unusual or isolated locations, and I often paddle alone. It’s important for me to have top-quality equipment that won’t let me down. I know I can rely on Redpaddle. They have a wide range of boards and provide excellent customer service. I’m looking forward to paddling my Redpaddle 13’2 Voyager on Lake Annecy in January 2023.
100 registered participants for the registration opening : new record !
Registration for the GlaGla Race 2023 opened yesterday evening and 100 participants registered alreday ! That’s the strongest start ever with competitors from France, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, the Netherlands, Israël, the USA, Germany, Italy !

Très belle édition de la Very Flat Race sur le lac d’Aiguebelette hier, dimanche 2 octobre. Limité à 100 participants en raison de son classement en réserve naturelle, l’événement a fait le plein ! Un résumé complet de la journée très vite !

Very nice edition of the Very Flat Race on Lake Aiguebelette yesterday, Sunday October 2. Limited to 100 participants due to its classification as a nature reserve, the event was full! A complete summary of the day very quickly!

The Alpine Lakes Stage named “Alpine Paradise Race” will be held in Italy (Aosta Valley) high in the mountains on a beautiful turquoise blue lake on saturday september 24th and sunday 25th, 2022.
Lake Geneva is the largest lake in western Europe ! We created a new Alpine Lakes Tour Race to discover this incredible lake in full : the LEMAN CROSSING. Build a team of 6 to 8 people, we provide the board (unless you have one). It’s more than a race, it’s an adventure with very varied landscapes !

Constituez une équipe de 6 à 8 personnes, nous fournissons le Dragon (paddle à 4, sauf si vous en avez un). C’est plus qu’une course, c’est une aventure avec des paysages très variés !

Pour cette 3e étape de l’Alpine Lakes Tour 2022, les concurrents ont pu retrouvé le canal de Savières 2 ans après sa dernière édition. Pour la première fois, la course avait lieu au printemps. Après avoir dépassé les 20 degrés une semaine auparavant, la neige est venue nous voir ! Elle n’a pas tenu au sol autour du canal mais était bien présente juste au dessus! Les températures étaient tout juste positives et le vent du nord était bien frais !
Merci de prévoir un gilet de sauvetage ou aide à la flottabilité 50 N CE ou une combinaison néoprène (demandé par la Préfecture de la Savoie)
Une kids race gratuite avec fourniture des paddles et gilets sera organisée à partir de 13h30 – inscriptions sur place pour les enfants de 6 à 14 ans. Nous avons aussi quelques pagaies enfant.
Accès au village de Chanaz et stationnement D’Annecy, sortir de l’autoroute à Alby sur Chéran et prendre la direction d’Albens puis du col de la Chambotte pour redescendre sur le lac du Bourget.
Avant d’entrer dans Chanaz, prendre la direction « Stade » « Camping les îles » « Port de plaisance » L’accès au site se fait au niveau du stade juste avant le camping par un chemin longeant la marina. Le stationnement dans Chanaz est payant. Des places gratuites se trouvent en continuant la route après le camping et le barrage. CONDITIONS MÉTÉO Après un mois de mars doux, avril commence avec un petit coup de froid ! Une petite ambiance GlaGla Race est prévue !

WEATHER CONDITIONS
After a mild month of March, April begins with a bit of a cold snap! A little GlaGla Race atmosphere is planned!

Access to the site is at the level of the stadium just before the campsite by a path along the marina.
Parking in Chanaz is chargeable. Free places are found by continuing the road after the campsite and the dam.
For people participating in the short distance, you must leave your vehicle in Chanaz, pick up your bib at the race “village” and take the shuttle that will take you to the start.

For those who have booked the meals offered by the Frisé Gourmet, you will have to pay for them on site in Swiss Francs or Euros. Drinks will be offered in addition (2€/CHF2). For those who have not booked, we will have a few “hot Diots” with shallots to order (within the limit of stocks available on your arrival). The bar will be open for coffees and drinks.
Pour ceux qui ont réservé les repas proposés par le Frisé Gourmet, vous aurez à les régler sur place en Francs Suisses ou en Euros. Des boissons seront proposées en complément (2€/CHF2). Sécurité et équipement / Safety & Required equipment
Les participants doivent être couvert par une assurance en responsabilité civile / Registered participants have to be insured with a liability insurance.
Les SUP sont fournis (Red Paddle Elite Race 26″ et 28″ en 12’6). Prévoyez de prendre votre pagaie. SUP are provided by the organizers. Take your paddle.
Wetsuits are recommended but not compulsory / Les combinaisons sont recommandées mais pas obligatoires.
