Tropical Race 2022 : the results !

The Tropical Race 2022 is over ! Thanks to the Tropical Corner crew ! What an incredible place for a summer race !

The tropical Race : a stage of the Alpine Lakes Tour starting from the Tropical Corner in a sporty and festive atmosphere! Good burgers, good lemonades and beers for after the race 😉

Programme spécial pour cette Tropical Race au Tropical Corner avec une longue (10km) et courte distance (5 km) le matin, même départ. Nous aurons l’après-midi une Dragon Race et une Kids Race en tout début d’après-midi.

Special program for this Tropical Race at the Tropical Corner with a long (10km) and short distance (5 km) departure in the morning at the same time. We will have a Dragon Race in the afternoon and a Kids Race at the very beginning of the afternoon.

BAT RACE 2022 : the results !

The BAT RACE 2022 is over ! Thanks to all participants who took the usual challenge to compete in a SUP Race… under the surface of the earth !

The Alpine Lakes Tour has struck a blow again at the start of the season with the return of the BAT Race: the only underground paddle race!

Saturday March 12, 2022, stand-up paddle enthusiasts from Switzerland, France, Italy and even the Czech Republic and Poland had an appointment for this reissue of a world first at Lac de St-Léonard, the largest underground lake in Europe, located in Valais (Switzerland).

The fact of being underground, almost in the dark, gives a very unique atmosphere to this race.

A very feminine race 

It’s rare enough to point it out: there were more women than men yesterday at the BAT Race with a very high level!

A paddle tournament

Competitors competed in a tournament with a women’s board and a men’s board. All participants were able to run at least 3 times.  

The equipment (paddle, vest, paddles) was provided by the Alpine Lakes Tour’s sporting partner: Red Paddle Co, inventor of the inflatable stand up paddle.

A race in disguise!

The theme was naturally that of superheroes! But not everyone had to be Batman or Batwoman… A special prize was awarded for the best costumes!

 The underground lake of Saint Léonard

The underground lake of St-Léonard is located in Switzerland, between Sion and Sierre, in the heart of the Valais Alps. This lake nestles between 30 and 70 meters deep. With a length of almost 300 meters, it is the largest natural and navigable underground lake in Europe. Weakly influenced by seasonal changes, the temperature of the cave is constantly around 15 degrees, that of the water at 11 degrees.

Open to the public from March to October, the lake can be explored by taking part in guided tours on boats with a capacity of 40 people. Original events are regularly offered there, such as aperitifs or concerts on board the boats. 

The official opening of the lake to the public for the 2022 season will take place next weekend.

Navigating the lake on a stand-up paddle is totally unique and reserved for this stage of the Alpine Lakes Tour.

The BAT RACE 2022 : tomorrow !

For the second time in the Alpine Lakes Tour history, we will have more women than men competing ! Pour la seconde fois dans l’histoire de l’Alpine Lakes Tour nous aurons plus de femmes que d’hommes à courir !

We will have 38 competitors from France, 23 from Switzerland, 4 from Italy and 1 from Poland, 1 from Czech Republic, and one from England.

Go to the end of the street and follow the signs ! climb up to the entrance of the lake / Allez au bout de la rue du lac et suivez les panneaux , montez à pied jusqu’à l’entrée du lac.

You will have to pay CHF 12 for the entrance to the lake (free for the kids) / Vous aurez à payer CHF 12- pour l’entrée au lac souterrain.

Lunch / Food

For those who have booked the meals offered by the Frisé Gourmet, you will have to pay for them on site in Swiss Francs or Euros. Drinks will be offered in addition (2€/CHF2). For those who have not booked, we will have a few “hot Diots” with shallots to order (within the limit of stocks available on your arrival). The bar will be open for coffees and drinks.

Pour ceux qui ont réservé les repas proposés par le Frisé Gourmet, vous aurez à les régler sur place en Francs Suisses ou en Euros. Des boissons seront proposées en complément (2€/CHF2). Pour ceux qui n’ont pas réservé nous aurons quelques “hot Diots” aux échalotes à commander (dans la limite des stocks disponibles à votre arrivée). Le bar sera ouvert pour des cafés et boissons.

Les participants doivent être couvert par une assurance en responsabilité civile / Registered participants have to be insured with a liability insurance.

Les SUP sont fournis (Red Paddle Elite Race 26″ et 28″ en 12’6). Prévoyez de prendre votre pagaie. SUP are provided by the organizers. Take your paddle.

Wetsuits are recommended but not compulsory / Les combinaisons sont recommandées mais pas obligatoires.

Bravo et merci aux frères Teulade qui sont venus avant d’aller bosser ! Bravo à 2 nos participants en pirogue et un merci spécial à Jean Luc Malfroid qui a participé aux premières étapes de l’Alpine Lakes Tour en 2013 (et a gagné le Tour 2013).

Résultats Tropical Race results (Geneva – Geneve)

Des conditions épiques pour cette reprise de l’Alpine Lakes Tour 2020 ! Cette course, qui n’était pas prévue au programme a été ajoutée pour permettre à tous ceux qui se languissaient après 3 mois d’interruption de reprendre la compétition. La bise soufflait sur Genève et a transformé la longue distance en un double upwind / Downwind ! Ludovic Teulade l’emporte chez les hommes en 1:06 et Sonni Hönscheid chez les femmes en 1:09

Epic conditions for this resumption of the Alpine Lakes Tour 2020! This race, which was not planned in the program, was added to allow all those who languished after 3 months of interruption to resume competition. The wind was blowing over Geneva and transformed the long distance into a double upwind / Downwind! Ludovic Teulade wins in men in 1:06 and Sonni Hönscheid in women in 1:09

Les participants à la longue distance ont eu à faire 2 boucles alternant upwind sur 2,5 km et downwind sur la même distance. Les participants à la courte ne faisait qu’une seule boucle. Certains inscrits sur la longue ont ainsi basculé sur la courte en ne faisant qu’une seule boucle.

Long distance participants had to do 2 loops alternating upwind over 2.5 km and downwind over the same distance. Participants in the short distance did only one loop. Some registered on the long distance have thus switched to the short by making only one loop.

Even more than usual, a big thank you to the team of volunteers who organized the race with the Tropical Corner team in the absence of the organizer of the Alpine Lakes Tour unavailable.

Les inscriptions pour l’étape suivante, l’Alpine Lakes Tour Canal de Savières et Lac du Bourget (initialement prévue les 18 et 19 avril) sont ouvertes ! Suivront l’Alpine Paradise Race (12 et 13 septembre), les championnats de France eaux intérieures (10 et 11 octobre) et la Very Flat Race (1er novembre) !

Registration for the next stage, the Alpine Lakes Tour Canal de Savières and Lake Bourget (initially scheduled for April 18 and 19) is open! Then we will have the Alpine Paradise Race (September 12 and 13), the French Inland Water Championships (October 10 and 11) and the Very Flat Race (November 1)!

Traversée du Lac Léman en Red Paddle Dragon (82 km – Lake Geneva crossing (82 km)

Dimanche 20 mai 2018, étape un peu spéciale de l’Alpine Lakes Tour avec une traversée du lac Léman d’est en ouest en suivant la côte nord (82 km) en Red Paddle Dragon.

Départ dimanche à 6h00 du matin de Villeneuve (Vaud, Suisse) et arrivée… dans l’après midi au Tropical Corner à Genève (Suisse toujours).

Cette étape est une reconnaissance de parcours sans chronométrage ni enjeu.

The BAT Race is back ! La BAT Race revient !

BAT RACE the most unique SUP Race in the world

As announced at the GlaGla Race, the BAT Race is back ! 3 years after the first edition, the most unique SUP Race will be held underground again on March 10-11th, 2018. Registration opening : february 27th at 9 pm.

Comme annoncé à la dernière GlaGla Race la BAT Race est de retour ! 3 ans après la première édition, la course la plus originale du monde, organisée sous terre aura lieu les 10 et 11 mars 2018 !

Ouverture des inscriptions mardi 27 février 2018 à 21h.
