Alpine Paradise Race : registration is now open
Registration for the 4th stage of the Alpine Lakes Tour 2020 is now open This very special Alpine Lakes Tour stage at 2000 m altitude in the Aosta Valley (the valley on the Italian side of Mont Blanc) is taking place for the second time. It represents the pinnacle of the concept of stand up paddle racing in an alpine environment.
Everything is there: the turquoise waters, the 4000 glacier-covered peaks, the mountain refuge and its very special atmosphere with, in the case of Refuge Prarayer, a unique welcome, abundant and excellent food, showers and even a jacuzzi !!
The Alpine Paradise Race programme
The Alpine Paradise Race takes place in the high mountains, the final programme will be revealed on Friday 11 September depending on weather conditions.
If the weather conditions are good, the program will be as follows:
Friday September 11: course reconnaissance
Saturday September 12: Short (5 km) and long distance (10 km) departure 10 a.m. / Saturday afternoon: Dragon Race and Kids Race
Sunday September 13: Technical Race: 10 a.m.
Meals by reservation at the Prarayer refuge for lunch and dinner.
Recommended accommodation at the Prarayer refuge just above the starting beach.
Alpine Paradise Race
Long distance course
The long distance is 10 km from the beach at the bottom of the refuge and towards the dam. The lake is 4km long with a prohibited area near the dam, the course includes an additional loop before returning to the refuge.
Lake Place Moulin
Place Moulin lake is the largest lake in Valle d’Aosta. It is located at an altitude of 2000 on the border between Italy and Switzerland. The Aosta Valley is a French-speaking autonomous region of Italy on the eastern slope of Mont Blanc and along the border with Switzerland and the Canton of Valais. The Aosta Valley is accessible from the Mont Blanc tunnel, the Petit and Grand Saint Bernard passes and via the Po plain.
From the city of Aosta we go north towards Bionaz and the Vappelline valley.
The Prarayer refuge
The Refuge Prarayer is run by the Bionaz family. The reception last year was just fantastic. Ask anyone who has slept there: an unforgettable experience at an altitude of 2000m at the foot of the glaciers and above the Place Moulin lake.

Ouverture des inscriptions pour l’Alpine Paradise Race
Les inscriptions pour la 4e étape 2020 de l’Alpine Lakes Tour aura lieu ce soir à 19h ! Cette étape exceptionnelle à 2000 m d’altitude dans le Val d’Aoste (la vallée côté italien du Mont Blanc) a lieu pour la 2e fois. Elle représente le summum du concept de course de stand up paddle en milieu alpin.
Tout y est : les eaux turquoises, les sommets à 4000 couverts de glaciers, le refuge de montagne et son ambiance toute particulière avec dans le cas du Refuge Prarayer un accueil unique, une nourriture abondante et excellente, des douches et même un jacuzzi !!
Le programme de l’Alpine Paradise Race
L’Alpine Paradise Race a lieu en haute montagne, le programme final sera dévoilé le vendredi 11 septembre en fonction des conditions météo.
Si les conditions météo sont bonnes, le programme sera le suivant :
Vendredi 11 septembre : reconnaissance de parcours
Samedi 12 septembre : Courte (5 km) et longue distance (10 km) depart 10h / samedi après midi : Dragon Race et Kids Race
Dimanche 13 septembre : Technical Race : 10 h
Repas sur réservation au refuge Prarayer les midis et soirs. Hébergement recommandé au refuge Prarayer juste au dessus de la plage de départ.
Parcours Alpine Paradise Race
Parcours de la longue distance
La longue distance fait 10 km au départ de la plage en bas du refuge et en direction du barrage. Le lac faisant 4km de long avec une zone interdite à proximité du barrage le parcours comprend une boucle supplémentaire avant de repartir vers le refuge.
Le lac de Place Moulin
Le lac de Place Moulin est le plus grand lac du Val d’Aoste. Il est situé à 2000 d’altitude à la frontière entre l’Italie et la Suisse. Le Val d’Aoste est une région autonome francophone d’Italie sur le versant est du Mont Blanc et le long de la frontière Suisse et le Canton du Valais. Le Val d’Aoste est accessible depuis le tunnel du Mont Blanc, les cols du petit et du grand Saint Bernard et par la plaine du Pô.
De la ville d’Aoste on remonte vers le nord en direction de Bionaz et la vallée de la Vappelline.
Le refuge Prarayer
Le Refuge Prarayer est tenu par la famille Bionaz. L’accueil l’an dernier a été juste fantastique. Demandez à tous ceux qui y ont dormi : une expérience inoubliable à 2000m d’altitude au pied des glaciers et au dessus du lac de Place Moulin.
Appelez vite pour réserver votre couchage ! L’ensemble du refuge est réservé aux concurrents jusqu’au 1er septembre. 76 places en tout.

Nous redémarrons l’Alpine Lakes Tour 2020 six mois après la GlaGla Race par un retour à une course historique (la 1ere édition a au lieu en 2013) à Genève en co-organisation avec le Tropical Corner. Elle aura lieu dimanche 12 juillet au matin.
We are restarting the Alpine Lakes Tour 2020 six months after the GlaGla Race with a return to an historic race (the 1st edition took place in 2013) in Geneva in co-organization with the Tropical Corner. It will take place on Sunday July 12 in the morning.

Afin de limiter l’affluence à terre au Tropical Corner, nous ne proposerons qu’une longue (10km) et courte distance (5 km) le matin même départ et pas de technical race comme d’habitude, l’après-midi. Nous aurons en revanche une Dragon Race en tout début d’après-midi.
In order to limit the crowds on land at the Tropical Corner, we will only have a long and a short distance in the morning (10 km) and no technical race as usual, in the afternoon. We will however have a Dragon Race at the very beginning of the afternoon.

Les autorités Genevoises se réservent le droit d’interdire à la dernière minute la manifestation en cas de reprise de l’épidémie. Les inscriptions pourront être reportées sans frais sur une étape de l’Alpine Lakes Tour ou remboursées (moins 5€ de frais administratifs)
The Geneva authorities reserve the right to prohibit the demonstration at the last minute in the event of a resumption of the epidemic. Registrations can be postponed free of charge on a stage of the Alpine Lakes Tour or refunded (minus € 5 of administrative costs)

Alpine Lakes Tour Canal de Savières and Lake Bourget Postponed / report étape du Canal de Savières et du lac du Bourget.
En raison de l’épidémie de coronavirus, nous avons décidé de reporter l’étape de l’Alpine Lakes Tour du canal de Savières à cet été. La date de report n’est pas encore fixée, elle le sera dès que possible.
MAJ 13/04/2020 : Après consultation et échanges, nous avons fixé la date du report au week-end du 1er et 2 août. Nous avons fait une demande à la préfecture, nous attendons la réponse.
Les personnes inscrites pour la course pourront soit reporter leur inscription sur la nouvelle date ou sur une autre étape de l’Alpine Lakes Tour (sans limite de durée) ou encore être remboursées.
Due to the coronavirus epidemic, we decided to postpone the Alpine Lakes Tour stage of the Canal de Savières until this summer. The postponement date is not yet fixed, it will be as soon as possible.
People registered for the race can either postpone their registration on the new date or on another stage of the Alpine Lakes Tour (without time limit) or be reimbursed.
After consultation and discussion, we have set the date for the postponement to the weekend of August 1 and 2. We have made a request to the prefecture, we are now waiting for an answer.

Hello Ray ! You are the first Korean participating in the GlaGla Race ! Could tell us who you are, how long have you been practicing stand up paddling, where do you usually paddle ?
I am a SUP enthusiast. I have been practicing paddling since 2016. I paddle in Han river in Seoul normally and east coast of Korea. Normally I go paddling early in the morning before my work. In 2019, I joined Asian SUP Tour held in South Korea and HK.
Second question : Are you coming to France especially for the GlaGla Race ? Why did you choose to register ? What are you expecting ?
GlaGla Race is the only reason for me to go to France. I expect to see lots of paddlers who don’t really care about cold. I would like to feel the atmosphere there and love to see the beautiful scenery of the Alps. Just enjoying~~, that’s the lifestyle I would like to have in my mid 40s.
