The GlaGla Race is definitely not your average SUP race. While paddleboarding usually conjures up images of boardshorts, sun and sand, GlaGla takes the opposite approach. Instead of sand it’ll be snow, and in place of boardies you’ll find full-length winter gear.

But those paddlers who aren’t afraid of the cold will certainly be rewarded: Lake Annecy (or lac d’Annecy) is a beautiful part of the world, with the Alps rising high above the lake to create lasting imagery.

The GlaGla Race, a legendary winter stand up paddle race on Lake Annecy (France) will take place in 6 months ! 500 competitors from all over Europe (and far beyond are expected).

Les étapes 2017 de l’Alpine Lakes Tour

L’Alpine Lakes Tour 2017 a déjà commencé avec sa première étape lors de la GlaGla Race, le 21 janvier dernier à Talloires sur le lac d’Annecy. Les inscriptions pour la 2ème étape (la Very Flat Race) sont ouvertes (et c’est déjà complet… liste d’attente ouverte)

The Alpine Lakes Tour started on january 21st in Talloires, lac d’Annecy – France with its first stop, the GlaGla Race. Registration for the second stop is open ( the Very Flat Race… and we are officially all booked, a waiting list is open)

Retour sur la dernière GlaGla Race

départ GlaGla Race 2017Une GlaGla Race qui a tenu toutes ses promesses !

Avec des conditions atypiques et 345 inscrits de 13 pays, la GlaGla Race s’affiche maintenant comme un rendez-vous international de premier plan. La prochaine édition aura lieu le 20 janvier 2018 (la page Facebook 2018 est déjà en ligne ;-))

-4°c au moment du départ des courses du matin… 0°c au plus chaud de la journée tout ça sur un lac à 5°c. Le village de Talloires habituellement en sommeil en janvier est devenu samedi 21 janvier, l’endroit où il fallait être quand on est fan de Stand Up Paddle. Venus de toute la France (de la Corse, au finistère en passant par l’Alsace, le Pays Basque et les Hauts de France), d’Italie, Espagne, Suisse, Autriche, Slovénie, Grande Bretagne, Allemagne, Belgique mais aussi Algérie, Afrique du Sud et Australie !

Sur la longue distance, épreuve principale dotée de 3500€ de prize money, Martin Letourneur le challenger breton, l’emporte chez les hommes au finish avec à peine 20 cm d’avance sur le favori l’italien Leonard Nika (il figure dans le top 12 mondial). Matthieu Chauvel fini 3e à 8 secondes ! Chez les femmes sans surprise, Olivia Piana, double vice-championne du monde s’impose loin devant Mélanie Lafenêtre espoir français du Stand Up Paddle.

Résultats / Ranking short distance – courte distance

The short distance started at the same as the long distance. Laurent Guyout (Annecy Stand Up Paddle Club, France) wins in 30:19′, Philippe Bienz (Switzerland) is second, arriving 40′ after Laurent and Olivier Ruedin (Switzerland) is third.

Résultats / Ranking Technical Race

Leonard Nika winner technical race

The technical race took place in the afternoon under the sun ! Leonard Nika won 2 seconds ahead of Martin Letourneur and 4 of Matthieu Chauvel ! The fight was hard between those 3. Melanie Lafenetre is the first women, Ines Blatge second and Marie Elphège Julienne third.

Here are the full results of the Technical Race with the overall ranking.

La technical race a eu lieu l’après sous un franc soleil et un lac d’huile ! Leonard Nika l’emporte 2 secondes devant Martin Letourneur et 4 devant Matthieu Chauvel ! La bagarre entre ces 3 champions a été âpre !

Tous les concurrents ont reçu en direct à l’arrivée leur temps de parcours ! All participant received their timing as they passed the finish line !

Martin Letourneur (France) wins the long distance 20 cm ahead of Leonard Nika (Italy) ! They fought all the race long with Matthieu Chauvel (France) and Jost Zakrajsek (Slovenia).

Olivia Piana (France) is the first woman to finish ahead of Mélanie Lafenêtre (France) and Marie-Elphège Julienne (France).
